Overview
A private 3-day round trip from Marrakech to the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, about 560 km each way: Aït Ben Haddou and the Dades Valley on day one, the Todra Gorge and a camel ride to a desert camp on day two, and the long drive back on day three.
Merzouga is about 560 km from Marrakech, 8–9 hours of pure driving each way, so three days is the minimum for the big dunes. Day one crosses the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Aït Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, then follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs past Skoura to the Dades Valley. Day two continues through Tinghir to the Todra Gorge, where the walls rise to around 300 m and the gap narrows to about 10 m, then on to Merzouga for a camel ride to camp.
Day three is the honest part: it is a long day back to Marrakech, typically 9–10 hours on the road. We break it with stops in the Draa Valley or Ouarzazate. If that sounds like too much, the 4-day version or ending in Fes (see the Marrakech-to-Fes trip) gives you a shorter final day.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
How long is the drive from Marrakech to Merzouga?
About 560 km, or 8–9 hours of pure driving. With stops it's 10+ hours, which is why the outward journey is split over two days.
Is 3 days enough for the Sahara from Marrakech?
It's the minimum for Merzouga. You get one night in the dunes and see the gorges on the way, but the last day is a long drive. Four days is more relaxed.
What is the desert camp like?
Private tents with real beds and bedding, and usually en-suite toilets and showers at standard-plus camps. We can quote basic, comfort or luxury camps.
When is the best time to visit Merzouga?
October to April. December and January nights can be close to freezing; June to August daytime heat often passes 40°C.
