Why Casablanca
Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and main international airport (CMN), so most travellers pass through rather than linger. The city itself is a half-day: the staggering Hassan II Mosque on the water, the art-deco downtown and the Atlantic corniche. What makes it useful for excursions is its position — Rabat is an hour north by train, the UNESCO Portuguese cistern of El Jadida 90 minutes south, and the oyster lagoon of Oualidia about two hours down the coast, all comfortable day trips. Treat Casablanca as a base or a stopover, and spend your nights here only if your flights demand it.
What to see
The world's third-largest mosque, built partly over the Atlantic and one of the few in Morocco non-Muslims can enter — the single must-do on a Casablanca half-day, with guided tours hourly.
Place Mohammed V, the French-era residential blocks and Cinema Rialto — an easy walk that fills the rest of a half-day.
The Atlantic boardwalk, beach clubs and the sunset terrace at Rick's Café — a relaxed end to a stopover day.

Rabat is an hour north by train, El Jadida and its UNESCO Portuguese cistern 90 minutes south, and the Oualidia oyster lagoon about two hours down the coast — all easy day trips. The city itself only needs a half-day around the Hassan II Mosque and downtown.
Casablanca (CMN) has more long-haul flights; Marrakech (RAK) is closer to most itineraries. We often book the open jaw: in to CMN, out from RAK, with a Casablanca stopover and a coastal day trip on the way through.
