Overview
The closest desert to Marrakech — 45 minutes from the medina. A half-day of camel riding, optional quad biking, a sunset over the lunar Agafay hills and dinner under the stars at a Berber camp.
The Agafay is a desert of rolling stone hills rather than dunes — a lunar landscape just 45 minutes from Marrakech, with the High Atlas as a snow-capped backdrop. It is the perfect half-day excursion when you don't have time for the deep Sahara: you leave the city in the afternoon and are back by late evening.
We combine a camel ride across the hills, an optional quad-bike circuit, mint tea on a panoramic terrace, and a three-course Moroccan dinner at a Berber camp as the sun sets and the stars come out. A genuine desert evening without the long drive south.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
How far is the Agafay desert from Marrakech?
Just 45 minutes by road, which is what makes it such a popular half-day trip. Unlike the Sahara (8–9 hours away), Agafay is an easy afternoon-and-evening excursion from the city.
Is Agafay sand dunes or stone desert?
Agafay is a rocky, lunar landscape of rolling stone hills rather than tall sand dunes — dramatic in its own right, with the snow-capped High Atlas as a backdrop. For true sand dunes you need the Sahara at Merzouga or Zagora.
Can I do this as a private experience?
Yes — the transfer and activities are arranged privately for your group. The camp dinner is shared with other guests at the camp, which adds to the atmosphere, but everything else is yours.
